Today, Carolina Abarca Schottland announced she will run for Lake County Board District 16. That is a seat currently occupied by embattled Lake County Commissioner Terry Wilke. Schottland is running as a Democrat and will taking on Wilke in the primary. The primary will take place on June 28.

Carolina is an attorney with a long history of community involvement. Schottland has volunteered with Mano a Mano Family Resources Center, Round Lake Area Garden Club, Lake County forest preserves and the University of Illinois Extension service.

She cites the need for greater need for the community to be considered more in the decisions made on the county board.

“Local residents want solutions, opportunities, access and leadership as we continue to face challenges related to COVID-19 and beyond,” said Abarca Schottland.

The district includes all or portions of the four Round Lake communities. It was redrawn to better represent the area’s growing Latinx population. The remap drew Lake County Board Commissioner out of his district and into district 16, with the seat currently held by Terry Wilke. The district also included precincts that were part of Barr’s district. Dick Barr announced last October that he would not seek re-election.
