Mundelein, Il – Lake County Treasurer, Holly Kim, announced today that her 2022 re-election campaign will accept cryptocurrency donations. This marks the first time in Illinois that crypto will be accepted by a campaign.
Kim says she is working closely with the Illinois State Board of Elections to make certain that filings are done properly. The FEC has allowed digital currency since 2014 and this is a first in Illinois.
“I am always looking for creative ways to engage our community and I believe this is something that we can be a leader on,” said Kim regarding the historic nature of her announcement.
Her campaign is requiring that those making cryptocurrency donations adhere to established contribution rules. The maximum contribtion is $6000 for an individual and $59k for a business. Only US residents may contribute.
