Tina Durrant is a candidate for Illinois State Representative who doesn’t appreciate the efforts of homeowners to have fun during Halloween. In a comment on a Facebook video of a particular family’s Halloween display, Durrant referred to the decorations as “crap.”
Countless homeowners throughout Lake County set up Halloween displays in their yards and homes, many of which are elaborate and require a lot of work. These displays reflect the passion for the season and help children have fun. We’ve been featuring these Halloween set ups on our social media by sharing videos of the displays.
On a very elaborate Halloween display that we shared, Durrant commented, “that’s a whole lot of crap to clean up.”

Durrant’s intemperate remark reflects poorly on her prospects to serve in the Illinois General Assembly. Her commentary is an insult to the family who has spent a lot of time and energy building the display, which they do every year. Her assertion also shows that she doesn’t understand the local economy. Halloween generates an estimated 13.5 billion every year in retail spending and is particularly important here in Illinois as we are the number one producer of pumpkins.
Tina Durrant should issue an apology for her rude commentary.
Pro Tip
When you are a candidate for office, try to think of good things to say about the efforts of voters. If nothing else, don’t say anything at all.
