Long time North Shore Water Reclamation District Trustee Beverly Sugar Young is running for re-election. Young has served as Trustee of the 3rd ward since 2012. She is being challenged by Waukegan Alderman Jose Guzman.
Young brings experience and a long list of accomplishments in the role. As part of the board, NSWRD fees have been kept below the national average. The NSWRD is unarguably effective at protecting local water including Lake Michigan. The NSWRD staff does an always on point job with no spills or failures. The board has always ensured adoption of the latest technology to process waste water. Young is also quite diligent and accessible when it comes to the needs of residents.
Guzman has no experience with regional waste water treatment. He has served as Waukegan alderman for not even a single complete term.

The race is set for the 2026 Democratic primary to be held on March 17th.
