According to reporting, North Chicago Alderman Anthony Coleman has been charged by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office with felony misconduct and felony criminal damage to government-supported property. Coleman represents North Chicago’s 2nd Ward.

The indictment accuses Coleman of knowingly damaging the North Chicago Water Treatment Plant surveillance video system. The incident occurred on August 8th 2023. The investigation alleges that Coleman cut the wires to a video camera system and removed cameras.

The camera system was voted on and approved by the city council. It was installed earlier in 2023.

“Coleman gained access to the water plant as a public official and destroyed an appropriate and legal camera system,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “This defendant doesn’t get to overrule the City Council by destroying government property.”
