Today, the City Of Waukegan warned residents of ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations within the municipality. An official statement was released expressing the alert along with other related information.
Per the statement, “You are encouraged to know your rights and be aware of misinformation. Inform yourself through trusted sources.” Residents are encouraged to visit www.illinoisimmigrationinfo.org.
The city also reiterated that Waukegan Police do not wear masks and will always be clearly identifiable with official uniforms and badges while on duty.
In accordance with the Illinois TRUST Act, the Waukegan Police Department will not participate in federal immigration enforcement, as the act prohibits state and local law enforcement agencies from assisting the federal government with civil immigration enforcement.
