Nick Sauer was seen as a rising star in Illinois Republican politics. He comes from a wealthy family, served on the Lake County Board and then successfully ran for State Representative of Illinois’ 51st District, but then was charged with violating revenge porn laws in an online scheme involving using his ex-girlfriends nude images to catfish men on twitter.

Sauer received about a dozen criminal charges in 2018 involving the use of the nude photos. According to Politico, a former girlfriend of Sauer’s filed a complaint with the Illinois legislative inspector general’s office accusing him of creating an Instagram account under her name and posting nude photos of her to lure men into graphic discussions. In an ironic twist, as State Representative, Sauer voted on the measure which defined the revenge porn laws in Illinois.

On Monday, Sauer was slated to stand trial before judge Patricia Fix. He plead guilty to attempted nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images. In exchange for his guilty plea, Sauer was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 24-months probation. Sauer will report to jail on December 29th to begin his incarceration.
