Today was the first weekend day of collecting signatures on candidate nominating petitions. Throughout Lake County, democratic candidates, supporters and organizations hit doors and held numerous petition gathering events.

Notable candidates who acted today forms a large list which includes Congressman Brad Schneider, State Senator Adriane Johnson, Mary Edly-Allen who is running for the state senate, State Reps Mayfield, Didech and Mason, Laura Dias and Tom Maillard who are running for State Rep, Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim, Sheriff John Idleburg, Anthony Vega running for county clerk, County Board Members Jennifer Clark and Carrissa Casbon, Judicial candidates Mike Cortina, Nancy Rotering and Elizabeth Rochford. There are likely even more Democrats who engaged in signature collection today.

One of the biggest and best organized events was held by the Libertyville Township Democrats, led by Sarah Grover. Located at Adler Memorial Park and dubbed “Donuts for Democrats Drive-Through,” the event brought a constant stream of voters showing up to sign nominating petitions and enjoy hot coffee with doughnuts. Candidates who participated in the event gathered reams of completed nominating petitions.

In this year of 2022, there are many candidates running for office for their first time and those running for re-election. If today is an indication, Democrats in Lake County are fired up and ready to go.
