It is established that children in the five to eleven age group are have the lowest percentage of full vaccination against SARS-Co_v-2. According to Mark Pfister of the Lake County Health Department, just 37% of the County’s 55k children in that age group have been vaccinated.

The D60 school district is hosting five vaccine clinics in order to encourage children age 5 to 11 to get their shots. These will be held starting Saturday February 6th to February 12th at a variety of locations in Waukegan. No appointment is needed.

The clinics are also available to anyone needing a shot.

The five clinics are part of the Illinois Community Partners Vaccination Program. Melaney Arnold, the public information officer for the Illinois Department of Public Health, said in an email the partnership is a collaboration between the health department and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

“Community Partners has teamed up with numerous community-based organizations and has assisted with more than 6,000 vaccination clinics statewide with a very simple goal — to get more people vaccinated,” Arnold said.

Abbott Middle School and McCall Elementary School will hold their clinics between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday for the first dose, and Feb. 26 for the second shot, according to the district. Appointments are required at McCall, but not at Abbott.

A clinic will also take place at Little Fort Elementary School from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb 10 for the first dose, and March 3 for the second. Appointments are required.

Lyon and Clearview Elementary School will offer clinics between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Feb. 12 for the initial shot, and March 5 for the final one. Appointments are not required, but encouraged at both.
